Although Christmas is a great family tradition, over the years we’ve been celebrating and marking the event in increasingly less traditional ways. Modern technology, folks – we can now use it to create a truly spectacular Christmas in ways that might not have been possible as little as 20 years ago.
Here are just some of the ways we use hardware to prepare and celebrate Christmas in style:
Printing off menus
Christmas dinner is one thing that never really changes, but now we can print full-colour menus that are particularly fun when customised to suit your own personal tastes. Especially helpful for large family Christmases where some people are vegetarian, some hate melon etc. etc.
Instant, full colour digital photos
20 years ago you’d most likely have to take your photos, not knowing whether any of them would turn out well, waiting for the holidays to be over before taking them down the high street to get developed and then waiting another week or two! Things have come a long way since then, and now we can retake hi-res photos using various settings on our 12+ megapixel cameras, before uploading to the PC and printing our photos with glossy photographic paper if we so wish. We can even share them instantly on Facebook using our mobile phones!
Christmas movies in full HD and 3D glory
With movies now available to purchase, download and view instantly, and the mass amount of blu-rays out there, we can choose to watch a plethora of Christmas movies in the comfort of our own homes – in 48 inch widescreens and in full HD. 3D technology has also now become a very real option, and fun for all the family.
Christmas recipes on iPad
The popular iPad and other tablets have become so accessible, not just out and about, but also in the home. Now with just a few swipes of the screen you can look up your favourite Christmas recipes and even watch videos of how to do things just right. Now there’s nothing stopping you from trying out more experimental Christmas recipes, or totally nailing that special turkey stuffing!
Video calling with loved ones
Christmas is about spending time with family and loved ones, but what if they happen to be far away during the holiday season? Luckily, we now have the technology to stay in touch with bright full-colour video calls on our computers, tablets, and even mobile phones. Skype is a great way to communicate with someone no matter where they are in the world, and best of all – it’s free! Other applications include Facetime on Apple devices, and Tango Messenger on Android Apps. Now you’ve got no excuse not to say ‘Happy Christmas!’.
No doubt you’ll be putting some if not all this technology to use over the holiday season, or perhaps you’ll be teaching your loved ones how to! Have a great, technology-filled Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
